History
1893: The Pacific Lumber Co. (Palco) began in Scotia, Ca.
1924: The Scotia Hospital was completed and opened December to serve Palco and their families.
1958: It operated as a hospital until Humboldt County builds Redwood Memorial Hospital in nearby Fortuna. After which, The Scotia Hospital building’s 1st floor remained in service as Palco’s Doctors and Dentist offices and the upper levels and basement were transition into Palco storage.
2007: Palco declares bankruptcy
2008: Palco is dissolved and divided into 3 entities:
The Mill and Lumber Operations: Humboldt Redwood Lumber Company
The Public Services and Parks: Scotia Community Service District (CSD)
The Town’s Company Houses & Civic Buildings: The Town of Scotia LLC, including The Scotia Hospital Building
2020: The Scotia Hospital was put up for sale
2022: The Durans, an Architect & Nurse Practitioner, purchased The Scotia Hospital
2022: Commencement of the conversion of the upper level into 7 units along with significant rehabilitation efforts
2024: ScoWorx begins operation leasing commercial, medical & artist suites on the main level
2025: 101 years after opening, The Halliday @ ScoHos reopens and reimagines The Scotia Hospital to welcome long-term, weekly & nightly visitors to its 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom suites.
